I could literally go on for days about this topic, especially being a woman I feel. Of course men groom themselves and have their ways of keeping clean and doing gender in their own form, but if you ask me the gender rol of a woman is much harder; in my opinion of course. Every morning I wake up at least an hour before class so that I can have at least 30 minutes to do my hair and make up, and 30 more minutes to make my way to class; everyday. Now while I like looking "pretty", "done up", or whatever you'd like to call it, it can sometimes be a grueling process. Just the fact that it's everyday and often times twice a day if I decide to go out with friends or what not that night; have to do the process all over again.
Another annoyance of mine is shaving my legs. As a woman it's natural that I do not want hairy or prickley legs, but it is truely an aggervation. If I could afford it I'd get laser hair removal on my entire body, minus my head hair. Shaving is a task I could complete every single day if I took the time to do so. Arms, legs, underarms, it's exhausting to keep up with. And do not even get me started on the eyebrows. I feel like I have to wax them every week to keep them "perfect", and by perfect I just mean to my liking.
The other thing that truly gets under my skin is my nails. No matter what I do I just simply cannot keep them from breaking or nail polish from chipping. I mean let's be real, I'm a broke college student that doesn't have money to be getting my nails done every week, but doing them myself is truly frustrating.
I feel like these are by far the top three things that really try my patience the most. When it comes down to it, all of them are also done in hopes to look more feminine or beautiful, however you choose to look at it. I believe we all do gender in our own sort of way, and by looking at our daily routine I think it is evident that doing gender is something that's always subconciously on our minds.
I couldn't agree more, it takes so much time and effort to get ready to go anywhere if you want to look presentable and not be judged as being a slob. Like I said in my blog I don't wear a lot of makeup anyway but it still takes time and don't forget the money we have to spend that guys definitely are spending to groom themselves.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird to think about how tedious the things we do almost every day actually are, and at the same time no one would walk up to you and be like "I can tell you took 30 minutes to get ready this morning." On the other hand, when you wake up late and can't complete your morning routine, your entire day is off, simply because you didn't have 5 minutes to brush your hair and had to throw it up into a bun. Not that you want to know this or anything but my hair is dark and literally grows back as soon as I shave it, so 80% of the time I say screw it and wait until it's getting pretty noticeable to do anything about it (I know I'm gross... but I would never shave every single day...) If you ever get laser hair removal, please let me know and I'll go too because shaving is the WORST
