Show and tell

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t8HQQgF6Js

I don't know how exactly I came across this video, but I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago and it instantly made me think of this class. I found it to be kind of sad. I don't know if it was because of the music or if it was even meant to be sad, but I could really feel myself emotionally connecting with the boy in the video. I really felt for him. There's no talking or anything in it, but it really is a powerful video.

  1. Hi, Victoria--

I agree that this is a striking video. I'd love for you to go into more detail about what about this makes you feel sad. Looking at the poster's screen name (genderbender2010) and YouTube page, I don't get the impression that hu feels bad about hu's self (I'm not sure which gender--if any--this person is, so I'm going with one of the many gender-neutral pronouns [hu] used in non-cisgender discourse). What do you mean when you say you really connected with hu?

For a different take (from a ftm trans person), see this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y0OL2biG3E&feature=share&list=UURj7HXvKV3AXGTbGeOX5Wzw

    Cheers,

    JF

  2. It's kind of hard to explain, that's why my entry was so short because I was sort of as a loss for words. Just something about the video really touched me. Partially, I think, because I can harldy even imagine what it feels like to be that person. I don't want to say hu is struggling with his/her gender, or wants to be one of the many gender's that he/she is or isn't because the video doesn't state that, but it just made me think about people who maybe do go through struggles with their gender and status; something I've never had to deal with or try to understand. If that makes sense. It just showed me that there really are many people who struggle with their gender who may or may not understand what they're going through; and even if they do understand what it is they're going through they may have other people in their lives who do not see eye to eye with them or understand what their struggles are.
